LA-based ad executive, Kimberley Linn and co-creative Katie Streeter take their Instagram art project to a whole new level; transforming their 50-plus lesbian-themed designs into downloadable emojis on iTunes.
What Is An Emoji?
Emojis are pictographs or ideagrams. They are mainly used as a method of visual communication to express ‘complicated emotions’ in one or more pictographs or ideagrams. When translated from its Japanese origin, emoji means, ‘picture’ (e) + ‘character’ (moji). The emoji was created in 1998 by Shigetaka Kurita, a designer who then was a part of a team who created the first set of 172 12×12 pixel emojis.
Why Should You Care About Kimberley Linn And Katie Streeter Emojis?
The emoji community has received a lot of backlash for its lack of diversity across demographics; including the lesbian community. Kimberley Linn and Katie Streeter’s latest creation offers a whimsical set of emojis made by lesbians for lesbians. The new lesbian emoji collection captures a wide variety of emotional narratives; such as, a figuratively relevant ‘fish taco’; a culturally applicable ‘Teagan and Sara album’; a sexually charged ‘Neve Cambell and Denise Richards’ make out session and more.
